JAN ALPERT'S VISIONS

I am an expressionist artist.

Since childhood I've always had a need to paint. Oil painting has been my primary medium of expression. For me the creative act of painting is as much a subconscious intuitive process, as it is a rational one.

Being a models Agent at this point in my life and being surrounded by young, beautiful women and men for whatever reason pushed my painting into another sphere. Lately I've found myself more interested in the human condition of aging and the loss of physical beauty.

I'm intrigued by color, and in many of my paintings build layer upon layer of color with different size palette knives. Recently, I've also experimented with using collage to add another dimension to selected works.

My leanings recently have been toward Abstract Expressionism, and creating mood through my use of color.

Subject matter varies with my emotions or can be an image brought to life through photographs taken by me, or just random thoughts that seem to find their way into my mind's eye and call out for expression.

Jan Alpert graduated from Adelphi University with a B. A. in Art Education. She taught art in the New Jersey school system for a number of years. She also studied at the Summit Art Center with Philip Sherrod and Sigmond Kozlow, the Art Students League, and the Pratt Institute in New York City.
